with old thermostat you could move the mercury ball around by hand and could get the heat to come on sometimes and then it would run all the time and would not shut down unless manually shut off.
No heat from trane hvac changed thermostat unit comes on blows cool air?
I think Tranes will blow cold air when you turn them on if you lose the 24 volts control voltage. Many brands do that.
It sounds like you shorted the wiring somehow, maybe while installing the thermostat and blew a fuse on the board. Did you turn off the power to the unit when you changed the thermostat?
Or you miswired the thermostat.
