where do you smell the %26quot;syrup%26quot; at? in the car or out or it? do you notice any leaks on the outside of the engine? weep hole on the water pump? coolant seeping out of the side of the head/heads?

but i would look at a thermostat that is stuck in the closed position which will cause your problem, hope this answers your question.
i believe ford had a little problem with heater

cores......
Year, Engine %26amp; Mileage? By %26quot;Constantly in the Red%26quot; you mean Overheating? Is the Floor on the Passenger's side Wet?

If the Floor is wet it's a good chance the Heater Core is leaking! %26quot;Replace%26quot; Replace Heater Valve and Heater Hoses.

%26quot;Overheat%26quot;; With the Engine Cold and Not Running, Remove the Radiator Cap, do you see rust or foam on the bottom of the Cap? (Rust-Replace Cap and Flush/Boil Out Cooling System! Foam-Transmission cooler Lines and Radiator needs to be Replaced)! Are All Hoses %26amp; Clamps Good, No Cracks, Soft, Flairing, Rusty or Weak Clamps?

%26quot;Flushing/Boiling Out the System%26quot;; Remove Old Thermostat (Leave New One Out till Process is Complete), Drain Old Coolant, add Flushing/Boiling Compound and Fill System with Water, Install Radiator Cap, Start Engine and Run for 15 to 20 Minutes to bring engine up to temp. and complete Cleaning Process, Drain and Flush Completely with Clean Water, Replace New Thermostat amd Add Coolant (50-50 Mixture Clean Water %26amp; Anti-Freeze), Run Engine and Check Coolant Level, It will go down as the Engine Warms.

Good Luck!
Put coolant in engine, find leak ,fix leak, hope engine is still ok from constantly being in the red. BTW smell is from nasty coolant never being flushed.
call ford
