How do you change the thermostat on a 1991 Cutlass Supreme?

this is a fairly simple repair,

first pop the hood and locate the upper radiator hose. follow that from the radiator too the engine. on most vehicles that is where the thermostat is located.

On older GM cars the thermostat is located under the radiator cap. make sure the engine is cool and take the cap off. its most likey under there. just pull it out and put the new one in.

IF its not under the cap (it should be), then it will be on the engine at the end of the upper radiator hose. there will be a housing that you must remove. it should he held in place by a few bolts. unbolt them and pull the housing off. the thermostat should be under there. just pull it out and replace it. when you put the housing back on put some RTV sealant on the housing surface so it will not leak.

whenever you do something with coolant be careful not to spill it. if you do make sure you clean it up asap so the neighborhood dogs and cats dont drink it.

Good luck.

Have you thought about keeping the thermostat and changing the 1991 Cutlass?
How do you change the thermostat on a 1991 Cutlass Supreme?
i mechanic for a living,,and if you,ll follow the top radiator hose down,,you,ll see a housing that bolts to the engine,,remove it,and the thermostat is in under it,,remove it,and replace the thermostat ,be sure and drain some of the coolant out before you do this,it will rush out on you if you don't,,good luck hope this help,s.
Follow the radiator hose from the top of the radiator to the top of the engine. There will be a small piece that bolts to the engine (usually three bolts) and attaches to the hose. Pull this off. pull out the old thermostat, and install your new one, making sure you have it right side up. Clean the old gasket material off of both the block and the thermostat housing and install a new gasket. Don't try to save $5 and use the old one, you will be sorry. Replace your housing and tighten the bolts. Top off your coolant reservoir with new antifreeze, and you are good to go! All parts should be readily available at any good auto parts store. This is a great project to start with if you don't know much about working on cars. If you want more comprehensive information, the auto parts store will have a repair manual specifically for your car for about $10. This will help with any other repairs, also. Good luck!
