We have a 2002 Taurus and it's making very little heat. We did change the thermostat but not better.?

A/C pump runs when the defrost is on like it's supposed to. We did change the thermostat. Is it possible that the heater core is going bad. We've already replaced the blower motor 2 years ago.

I was going to suggest the heater core, but I think you may have answered your own question. Best advice would be to have a qualified mechanic check the problem out prior to investing in any costly repairs.

Does the temp gage run at the normal temp? If it does then it is the heater core. You can try back flushing the core with forced pressure from a hose and if it is a dirty core your car will give much better heat. SOmetimes the core gets plugged and the only option is replacement
NEXT TIME YOU RUN YOUR CAR,,FEEL BOTH HEATER HOSES AOUND THE HEATER CORE AREA,,, REMEMBER,, IT COULD BE HOT,,, BECARFUL,,, IF THEY ARE THE SAME TEMPATURE,, WATER IS CIRCULATING FINE,,IF NOT, GET A RADIATOR FLUSH KID, (PRESTON) FROM WALMART,,DISCONNET BOTH END OF HEATER HOSES FROM ENGING BLOCK, PUT THE PART THAT THE WATER HOSE GOES ON,,,, FLUSH THE HEATER CORE,,,,, THIS COULD BE ONE PROBLEM,,OR THE ADJUSTMENT LEVER OF YOU HEATER ON YOU DASH BOARD, MIGHT BE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT,,,,THERE IS A DOOR THAT ADJUSTS HOW MUCH TO A DOOR OPENS THIS REGULATES HOW MUCH HEAT GOES INSIDE,, IS IT LIKE ADJUSTING A WATER FAUCET AT HOME,, YOUR ADJUST THE WATER TEMPATURE,,
i don,t think the heater core is bad but it might be clogged up. take the heater hoses off and take a garden hose and flush out the core. you also might check the radiator too to make sure it,s full.
It is also possible that you have air in the system. This would prevent the heater core from doing it's job. When you replaced the thermostat, did you use one that is set to open at the original factory setting? If not, you may have to change it again. BE SURE THAT YOU USE ONLY GENUINE FORD COOLANT!!!!! Anything else will cause problems on down the road. There is no such thing as %26quot;universal%26quot; coolant. Also, go to a do-it-yourself car wash and clean the engine compartment, especially the space between the radiator and the A/C condenser. This area always collects debris, like leaves and road dirt. The presence of foreign objects here restricts the flow of air around both surfaces. Good Luck!!! If this is a 3.8 liter engine, it is also likely that your head gaskets are bad and need replacing. If this is a 3.0 engine, you are luckier.
